I took a closer look to see whether this hardware lives up to its name and really is the ultimate expansion for the Amstrad CPC. As is so often the case, I came across this interface on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpcwiki.eu\/forum\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CPC Wiki Forum<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Interestingly, ULIfAC is not the first version of this hardware. There was already a predecessor, the <strong>USiFAC II<\/strong>, which is also based on the <strong>PIC 18F47Q10 microcontroller<\/strong>. ULIfAC is compatible with the <strong>CPC464<\/strong> and <strong>CPC6128<\/strong> models, provided you have the appropriate adapters. The interface is available for <strong>\u20ac42 including postage<\/strong> and can be ordered via the user <strong>ikonsgr<\/strong> on the forum (ideally via private message).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An overview of the features<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ULIfAC boasts a wealth of features that significantly enhance the Amstrad CPC. Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Memory expansion<\/strong>: 256 KB + 16-bit ROM board on the CPC6128, 192 KB + 16-bit ROM board on the CPC464. Here is a brief guide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mode selection<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>|SM,1<\/strong>: CPC 664\/6128 mode (default)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>|SM,2<\/strong>: CPC 464 mode<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>|SM<\/strong>: Displays the current mode<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once set, the mode is saved in the EEPROM. Available from board version V5 onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Memory and ROM functions<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each mode offers several saving options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>CPC 664\/6128<\/strong>: 512 KB RAM, 32x ROM board or a combination of 256 KB RAM and a 16x ROM board<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>CPC 464<\/strong>: 192 KB RAM and 16-bit ROM board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The configuration can be changed using <strong>|SW<\/strong>, and the ROM configuration program is launched using <strong>ROM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">USB function<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die USB-Funktion wird automatisch aktiviert, wenn ein USB-Stick eingesteckt wird. Once configured with <strong>|WF,1<\/strong>, files on the PC can be accessed. After booting in <strong>6128 mode<\/strong> (command: <strong>|6128<\/strong>), you gain access to the additional memory and the extended ROM functions.
