Was wie ein R\u00fcckschritt wirkte, war in Wahrheit eine durchdachte Strategie. Nintendo wollte ein g\u00fcnstigeres Einstiegsger\u00e4t f\u00fcr j\u00fcngere Kinder anbieten, denen die 3D-Funktion des gro\u00dfen Bruders ohnehin nicht empfohlen wurde. Der 2DS spielte alle 3DS- und DS-Spiele vollst\u00e4ndig ab und bot damit Zugang zur riesigen Bibliothek beider Systeme zu einem deutlich niedrigeren Preis. Das kompakte, robuste Design ohne bewegliche Teile erwies sich dabei als ideale Wahl f\u00fcr seine Zielgruppe. Mit 7,42 Millionen verkauften Einheiten war der 2DS kein Massenph\u00e4nomen, erf\u00fcllte aber seinen Zweck als zug\u00e4ngliches Einstiegsger\u00e4t in das 3DS-\u00d6kosystem zuverl\u00e4ssig.
