The Sharp MZ-700 was developed and released in 1982 by the Japanese company Sharp Corporation. It was part of the popular MZ series of home computers, which was introduced in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The MZ series was known for its sturdy construction and reliability.

The MZ-700 was an evolution of the earlier MZ-80 model, but unlike its predecessor, it was designed for the mass market. It offered improved graphics and sound capabilities, making it attractive for use in education and entertainment. The computer was particularly popular in Japan and Europe and was used by both beginners and hobbyist programmers.

A notable feature of the MZ-700 was that it shipped without a built-in programming language or operating system, giving users the freedom to load various languages or operating systems from cassette or floppy disk. This flexibility, combined with an affordable price, made the MZ-700 a successful home computer in the early 1980s.
