Der Sega Saturn ist eine Konsole mit zwei Gesichtern: In Japan war er ein respektabler Erfolg, in Europa und Nordamerika jedoch eine bittere Niederlage. Sega brachte die 32-Bit-Konsole 1994 auf den Markt \u2014 in Nordamerika \u00fcberraschend vier Monate fr\u00fcher als angek\u00fcndigt, was den H\u00e4ndlern und Entwicklern kaum Zeit zur Vorbereitung lie\u00df. F\u00fcr diesen Fauxpas zahlte Sega einen hohen Preis. Hinzu kam die komplexe Dual-CPU-Architektur, die Entwickler vor echte Herausforderungen stellte und viele westliche Studios abschreckte. Die gleichzeitige Einf\u00fchrung der Sony PlayStation mit ihrer einfacheren Hardware und st\u00e4rkeren Drittanbieter-Unterst\u00fctzung besiegelte das Schicksal des Saturn im Westen weitgehend. Dabei hatte der Saturn einiges zu bieten: exzellente 2D-Spiele, eine herausragende Bibliothek im Bereich Shoot’em’ups und Kampfspiele sowie eine in Japan bis heute verehrte Software-Bibliothek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t
